Early Life and Career

John Edwards was born on June 10, 1953 in Seneca, South Carolina. He graduated from Clemson University and the University of South Carolina School of Law. After graduating law school, Edwards began practicing law as a personal injury lawyer.

Political Career

Edwards entered politics in 1998 when he was elected to the U.S. Senate. He served in the Senate from 1999 to 2005. In 2004, Edwards was the Democratic vice presidential nominee, running alongside John Kerry. The Kerry-Edwards ticket lost the election to George W. Bush and Dick Cheney.

In 2008, Edwards ran for President of the United States. He campaigned on a platform of poverty reduction and universal health care. However, Edwards dropped out of the race after the Iowa caucuses.

Personal Life and Legacy

Edwards' personal life has been plagued by scandal. In 2008, it was revealed that he had an extramarital affair with Rielle Hunter. The affair resulted in the birth of a child, and Edwards was forced to admit to the public that he had lied about it.

Edwards' legacy is complicated. He is remembered as a charismatic and talented politician, but his career was ultimately derailed by personal scandal.
