Robin Van Persie Insists He's 'Not Traumatised' After New Heerenveen Boss Suffers Record 9-1 Defeat in Dutch Cup

New Heerenveen manager Robin van Persie has insisted he is "not traumatised" after his team suffered a record-breaking 9-1 defeat in the Dutch Cup.

The heavy loss to amateur side SV Spakenburg was the worst defeat in Heerenveen's 111-year history.

It was also the biggest defeat by a professional Dutch team since 1971, and the heaviest defeat in the KNVB Cup since 1951.

Van Persie, who took over as Heerenveen manager in December, said he was "very disappointed" with the result, but insisted he was not worried about his team's future.

"I'm not traumatised," Van Persie said. "I know that we have a lot of work to do, but I'm confident that we can turn things around."

Heerenveen are currently bottom of the Eredivisie table, and have won just one of their last 10 matches.

However, Van Persie said he was confident that the team could avoid relegation.

"We have a lot of quality in the squad," Van Persie said. "I know that we can do better than this."

Heerenveen's next match is against FC Utrecht on Saturday.
